An Action Plan – How to be Successful in Life Using These First Steps to Success!

How to be successful

Face it, warrior, you’re stuck in a rut and need to know how to be successful.

You’d love to live a successful life, but you don’t know where to start.

Don’t worry, you’re not alone. The world is full of people that desire to grab the brass ring of life but can’t get squat done.

It’s like Thoreau said, “Most men live lives of quiet desperation.”

Warrior, in this post we’re going to kick that B.S. to the curb and give you a map you can use to meet greatness.

Because the simple fact is: you have the same life force in you that everyone else has; you have to know how to ignite it.

As usual, I’m going to tell you that it won’t be easy. Nobody ever had a statue erected in their honor for peeling a banana or winning a game of hopscotch.

Let us begin…

Locating and Pushing Out of Your Comfort Zone

Most of us are looking for a way to change our lives for the better. It’s not rocket science to figure out what it is you want out of life.

If I were to venture a guess why you wanted to do so, it would fall into one of several categories. Almost everyone you meet has the same needs and desires for their lives.

In 1943 a guy named Abraham Maslow wrote a paper about motivation in human beings. He was very selective in the people that he studied. He only looked at people that were successful in their lives and dismissed the ones living in misery.

In Maslow’s own words, “If you study immature, unhealthy, and stunted people you’ll get a psychology based on failure”.

So Maslow published his book called Motivation and Personality. In that piece, he came up with a 5 stage hierarchy or chain of command of needs that motivate people.

The levels or stages are:

  • Biological and Physiological Needs – You need basics like air, food, water, shelter, and sleep to survive on this most basic level.
  • Safety Needs – Protection from the weather, crime, and other things that could create havoc in your life.
  • Love and Acceptance Needs – Intimacy, friendship, trust with your friends, love, and respect. This level focuses not only on you but what you can do for others.
  • Esteem Needs – The ability to gain dignity and achievements for yourself and to gain a reputation that is respected by others.
  • Self-Actualization Needs – Seeking personal growth and peak experiences. This is usually the desire to push yourself to the highest level of success that you’re able to grasp.

There is an interesting aspect of using this model. If you’re stuck at any one of these levels, your mind will remind you of the fact that you’re slacking.

You will become aware of the fact that you’re in a “comfort zone”.

For example, if you’re a living out of your car, or in the streets, your mind will be reminding you that something is wrong. (Of course I’m not talking about mentally ill people; I do realize that not everyone’s brains are in good health.) As a matter of fact, the longer you’re deprived of a need the more you’ll crave it.

If you lack food, the longer you have to go without it the hungrier you’ll be.

Not only food, but if you’re lacking on any of Maslow’s levels you’ll want that fixed, too. If you’re deprived of money, the more you’ll want it.

The more you’re deprived of a meaningful, intimate relationship, the more you’ll look for it.  If you’re making a wad of money but hate your work, you’ll want to do something deeper.

Please Don’t Tell Me This Crap…

Now some of you might be thinking, “If I had all my basic needs met, and didn’t have to worry about money, I’d be happy.”

Really?

If that were true, you wouldn’t see so many filthy rich people that are miserable and screwed up in the head. Every day, the news is filled with tragic stories of wealthy people.

It’s common to hear about a young person that grew up in an affluent home that killed himself, or a Hollywood movie star that’s depressed and in an institution.

And let’s not forget those lucky lottery winners!

Statistics show that 80% of these “lucky” winners end up in far worse shape once they got their hands on all that moola.

So whatever level of needs you’re stuck at, you’ll desire it and pursue it…or go nuts.

Why am I going over Maslow’s theory?

Because, before you take the first step in transforming your life, you’re going to need to know why you want to change. If you can pinpoint the source of pain or discomfort in your life, you can chart a way to fix it.

If you’re a true warrior, you’ll want to take the time to find out where you are on a map before you take the first step and learn how to be successful.

This means that YOU are going to have to take stock at where you are in life. I can point the way, but you are going to have to do the work.

And believe me; the Way of the Warrior is not easy.

The Quest – An Action Plan for Kings that Work
Back in the Dark Ages, a king would become ill. He’d become unhappy, listless, bored and sick.

A king could have everything he wanted: sex, money, prestige, etc., but his life would become a wreck. So he’d grab his doctors and counselors to see if there was a cure for his problems.

Many times, the cure offered to the king would be something that sounded crazy. They would tell him that he needed to go on a dangerous, life-threatening mission. He needed to go rescue someone, or get a valuable artifact back, or fight another battle.

Why would they suggest such a thing?

Because the king had become limp and useless; he needed a quest that would revive his body and mind. These wise men knew that he needed a challenge in his life, even if it meant risking it.

He needed a mission that would bring out his best. He needed to understand how to be successful.

This is the Warrior action plan mindset – to move forward daily, and shoot for the best self-realization that you can.

How to be Successful in Life – A Lesson from a Hyper-Warrior

action steps

It‘s no mistake that Alexander of Macedonia is called “The Great”.

He was never satisfied with any of his successes, and always pushed himself to the next level. Brave to the point of recklessness, he had a list of conquests in his mind that he pursued with great passion.

There are volumes of work written about his triumphs and how he influenced the world. Alexander always picked ambitious goals that seemed impossible.

His homeland, Macedonia, was a small, insignificant country. Compared to the Persian Empire, it was a pimple in the acne of life. Yet, his first major goal was to defeat and conquer them.

To anyone else the task seemed impossible, but Alexander was unstoppable.

Using great care, he chose the right time and places to face his enemy, and battle after battle he defeated them.

Finally, in 331 BC, he rode into the Persian Empire’s capital of Babylon as its new king.

Other than his military genius, there are two reasons why Alexander was so successful;

One of them was he never gave up, no matter what.

When the island city of Tyre refused to surrender to him, he decided to do what everyone said was impossible. Not only was the city on an island out in the sea, but it had massive walls protecting it from all sides.

Alexander laid siege to it for seven months.

Because the city was so well protected, it was considered to be invincible. Once Alexander sacked Tyre, everyone thought he could do the impossible.

Another reason his life was so significant was because he always had another goal or quest on the horizon.

After he conquered a territory, he would adopt its people, culture and territory. This meant that his empire was in continual expansion. He would then look forward to his next conquest with great passion.

He was never satisfied and always moved forward.

So, what’s the point?

The point is that a true warrior is never satisfied; at least not for long. They are constantly looking to refine, improve and better their lives.

A true warrior is always looking for the next mountain to climb.

Action Step: Pinpoint Where You Are and Where You Want to Be

If you’re ready to take up the warrior quest of personal improvement, then you’ve got to have a starting point in order to know how to be successful.

You will also have to have an ending point (goal).

Yes, your quest is continual improvement, but you will have goals along the way. Without them you will never be able to measure your success or have a sense of achievement.

Once you meet that goal, you can set another goal in the same area.

A good example of this is Michael Jordan. Once he had one NBA championship ring, he wanted another one. Eventually he set a goal of winning six of them, which he did.

Here’s an example of how you could apply this principle to your life. Let’s say you have a goal to lose some weight and have a sleek body.

If you don’t have a specific set of goals you can aim at, you can’t measure your success. If you can’t measure your success, you won’t be able to see any improvement and you’ll probably give up.

The smaller goals are like charging stations that spur you on to the next level in your improvement.

That’s why it’s important to have starting and finishing points, so you can see your improvement.

You will also need to track your progress daily as well.

Yeah, that’s right. I said, “Track your progress daily”.

The Way of the Warrior isn’t a lazy method; it requires work, commitment, and clarity.

Your First Action Steps and How to Start Them

All of these steps require the key element of action.

You can think of action as the fuel that will propel you closer to your goals and dreams. The more action that you take, the closer you’ll get to your goals.

Warrior Step 1: Decide on the Areas of Improvement

Choose your battles well and think upon them.  You don’t want to have multiple fronts that you’re trying to attack. Pick a few main goals to focus on and go after them with a vengeance.

The reason why you don’t want to have too many at once, is because each goal you choose will have a sub-goal.

Here’s an example:

Goal: Lose 30 pounds.

Sub-Goal:  Lose 5 pounds in 2 months.

Action 1: Jog every day for 30 minutes.

Action 2:  Restrict Calories to 2,200 a day.

Sub-Goal:  Lose another 5 pounds in 2 months.

Business Goal:  Start an Online Business – Technical Writing

Sub-Goal:  Get first 5 clients.

Action 1: Send out 50 emails a day.

Action 2: Start a Facebook Business Page.

Sub-Goal: Write an eBook/Promotion piece.

Action 1: Write outline

Action 2:  Write Introduction

Warrior Step 2: Decide on a Target Date

You need a sense of urgency in your life.  The one resource that you can’t replace is time, so you need to make the most of it.

Along with your goals, sub-goals, and actions you’ll need to set a time in to accomplish your goal. This may seem intimidating, so we have provided you with our Warrior Goal Sheet to help you get started and organized.

Warrior Step 3:  Update or Reset Your Progress

Once you have reached your target date, make a note on the sheet in the goal section on your progress.  Keep track of how close you were to reaching your goal.

If you had a goal to write 10 blog posts, put down the number that you wrote.

If you did not reach your goal, do not write down that you failed!  Just write down your progress and stay focused and upbeat.  You can always print another sheet and upgrade your goals.

Tip:  Get a 3-hole punch and keep your sheets in order so you can see where you’ve been and where you are going.  This is vital if you’re going to progress daily.

Conclusion

The first steps of how to be successful in life are not difficult to understand.  However, executing the steps takes commitment and work.  And if you’re going to change your life and move towards your goals, you must keep track of them.
